Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Mateo Kovacic, Denis Zakaria, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, Conor Gallagher, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Kai Havertz are the Chelsea representatives at the World Cup, while the likes of Ngolo Kante, Reece James and Ben Chiwell were ruled out of the tournament by injuries.
So far into the tournament, the second rounds of the group stage games have been almost completed, but only one out of the twelve Chelsea representatives at the World Cup have been able to put the ball at the back of the net.
In this article, we would be writing on the only Chelsea player who have registered a goal in the World Cup tournament so far.
1. Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling joins the number of Chelsea players who has scored in the World cup, as he became the 15th Chelsea player to score at the World Cup tournament over the last three decades, and has also become the only Chelsea player who has scored so far in the competition.
Raheem Sterling put England three goals ahead just before half time in the three lions opening game against Iran, which came from an Harry Kane’s cross.
They went on to score three more goals, ending the game with a 6–2 scoreline win over Iran to give them a superior goal difference in the group B.
The Chelsea forward was one of England’s outstanding performers in the game against Iran behind Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, as he registered one goal and also assisted another one for Saka to score the fourth goal.
Despite a stalemate draw against U.S.A in England’s second game, Raheem Sterling would hope to continue produce more attacking returns for the team, as they look to be heading into the next round of the competition, they currently sit top of the group B with four points.
Other Chelsea players who have had a goal contribution in the tournament includes Hakim Ziyech who registered an assist for Morocco against Belgium, and Christian Pulisic who also had an assist against Wales in U.S.A opening game of the campaign.
