Boehly is expected to miss Chelsea’s final game of the season

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly will not be in attendance for the club’s final Premier League game of the season against Newcastle United, according to reports.

The U.S billionaire has experienced a difficult first year as owner at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues recording their worst-ever points total in Premier League history.

Frank Lampard’s side are currently in 12th place and the highest they can finish is 11th. Should Chelsea lose to Newcastle and results elsewhere go against them, they could finish 14th – their joint-worse finish.

It has been a disastrous season from start to finish for Boehly and Chelsea. Despite spending over £600million on new signings, the club are on their third head coach of the season, with Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter losing their jobs.

Yet, despite being a regular at Stamford Bridge throughout the season, Boehly will not attend Chelsea’s game with Newcastle due to business in America, according to The Telegraph.

Boehly missing the game means he will miss the traditional ‘lap of appreciation’ following the final whistle. After the final game of the season, players are joined by club owners and their families on the pitch to show their appreciation to the fans for their support throughout the season.

Once the 2022/23 campaign comes to an end, Boehly and Clearlake Capital are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window in ensuring the club is a contender next season.
