Speaking in an interview with Beat FM, he said, “The most difficult player I ever faced in my Chelsea career was Steven Gerrard.” I’ve never seen a white man who is as quick, fast, and strong as he is. ”

Mikel Obi also explained how he developed with his former club, Chelsea, pointing out that the players he met at the club helped him. According to him, “The likes of Drogba, Makelele, Geremi, John Terry, and Frank Lampard really helped me when I joined Chelsea.”

Regardless of this, John Mikel Obi hosted a Back2Base talent show for young Nigerian athletes looking to pursue a career in football, basketball, and tennis.
