Before The Fire

Several odd events were experienced by Nigerians despite the merriment of Christmas, and one of the odd experiences was how a supermarket named Next Cash and Carry, which is situated in Abuja, was gutted by fire on Boxing Day.

According to reports, the supermarket suddenly caught fire without anyone knowing the reason behind the fire disaster.

However, it was so surprising to see that the sympathizers and people in the vicinity gathered at the supermarket as though they were there to help with the situation. Instead of the people helping the situation, they jettisoned that and started looting the supermarket.

During The Fire

What could have caused such an act? Is it poverty or the right thing that they were supposed to do or theft?

This is a very bad act that people can be seen with. It is important to know that numerous wonderful people in Nigeria have helped people in different locations in the country, but it is worrisome to see that some people are known for doing things contrary to the right thing to be done.

The same thing occurred during the END SARS nationwide protest when people were seen using the opportunity to loot different shopping malls and cart away extortionate goods.

It was even said that some people purposely went to Shoprite in Ilorin and looted the shopping mall.

Why The Nigerian Government Needs To Make A Law That Will Stop People From Looting During Fire Hazards

It is now very important for the Nigerian government to formulate a law that will stop people from committing crimes during such hazards.

This is because if there is no law stopping them, people will continue to loot instead of helping the situation.

At least the law should state that whoever is caught looting during a hazard will be made to pay for all the goods stolen or serve a jail term. That will stop people from such acts, and they will rather help the situation rather than commit a crime when they are expected to help in such a situation.
