Police officers who arrived at the scene revealed that the deputy base commander was driving a saloon car when his vehicle collided with a truck.
“Brief circumstances are that the motor vehicle was from Bomet direction heading to Narok general direction. On reaching the scene of the accident, it was in the process of overtaking an unknown lorry and collided head-on with the lorry which was travelling from the opposite direction,” the police report read in part.
“As a result of the impact, both vehicles landed on the right side of the road as one faces Bomet direction.” Calvins Ochieng sustained serious injuries on both legs and chest and succumbed to the wounds on the spot.
Police officers from Mulot, approximately 12 kilometres from the accident area visited the scene, processed the scene and moved the police officer’s body to Longisa Referral Hospital where it will be kept pending an autopsy.
“Efforts are underway to tow the vehicles to Ololulunga Police Station for inspection,” it was reported. This happened a week after another accident in the region claimed the lives of five people while another 18 people sustained serious injuries.
The accident reported on March 18, occured after a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) and a tractor collided. Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has raised the alarm over the rising number of accidents on Kenyan roads.
