The 21-year-old Caicedo was a pivotal player in Brighton’s recent season, which earned the team European football for the first time, but its price tag of nearly £100m may be too steep for interested parties.

The move now leaves Brighton with new midfield options with the addition of Dahoud, who has signed a four-year deal.

Dahoud, a Germany international who had previously been tracked by Brighton’s head coach Roberto De Zerbi when he was in charge of Sassuolo, was announced as a new signing that would add more depth to the team’s available player options.

The signing shows Brighton intent to prepare for the possible departure of star midfielder Caicedo, who had signed a new contract with Brighton earlier this year.

However, even with his newly signed contract, it is still a possibility that Caicedo may transfer. Chelsea has already been in advanced talks with Caicedo, with speculation that the midfielder would be Chelsea’s first major signing under their new manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea’s interest in Caicedo has heightened since the recent success of the Ecuadorian by playing in Brighton. Though there is no agreed fee yet, Caicedo has reportedly chosen to join the West London club.

Despite attempts to keep Caicedo at Brighton, De Zerbi had admitted last month that Caicedo and fellow midfielder Alexis Mac Allister may leave the team this summer.
