Barcelona and Manchester City will be taking part in a mid-season friendly which be hosted by the Catalans at their home turf Camp Nou.
While the game has left many thinking why two of the Europe’s giants are participating in a mid-season friendly, it will be a game for charity.
The two sides are will clash in this game know as “A Great Game for a Greater Cause”, to support the City boss Pep Guardiola’s former assistant coach of Juan Carlos Unzue.
The former assistant coach was suffering from the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis [ALS] disease back in 2020 and has now set up an ALS research.
Unzue was an assistant coach at the Catalan club from 2003-2010, where he was deputy to Frank Rijkaard [2003-2008] and then Pep Guardiola [2008-2012].
He took the job again with Barca when Luis Enrique was the manager from 2014-2017. Unzue also managed Celta Vigo and Girona as their first team coach before the ALS forced him to quit the job.

Both Barcelona and City are on the back of some energising form as the Catalans downed Real Sociedad 4-1 in their last game, whereas Pep’s side fought in an end-to-end thriller in a 3-3 draw with Newcastle United.
While the game maybe a one for the charity, Xavi and Pep are expected to hand in chances to their youth talents alongside some first-team stars.
