According to TSC, the course is offered by the Ministry of Education at a cost of Ksh2,500 per person.

This is part of the implementation of Kenya’s National Digital Master Plan 2022-2032 which seeks to impart and enhance the digital skills of Kenyans.

“The training will be self-sponsored at a fee of Ksh2,500 per person for basic digital skills and a certificate will be issued upon completion and assessment by the Government” TSC noted.

TSC mandated that all regional directors, county directors and sub-county directors ensure that the circular was disseminated to all teachers in their respective jurisdiction.

On a larger scale, the ICT ministry is seeking to train over 20 million Kenyans under the program.

The driving force behind the initiative is to ensure that Kenyans have basic digital skills and capacity to effectively access and utilize Government e-services.

“The Government with the support of stakeholders has developed an ICT curriculum of short courses focusing on Foundation, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced digital skills including, public sector-focused digital skills,” it was reported.

School teachers and students will fall under the Phase 1 category of the program where 5 million citizens will be trained.

The training will be facilitated by different ICT organisations drawn from both the public and private sectors, NGOs, and various accredited training institutions.

Additionally, President William Ruto has committed to constructing an ICT hub in every ward to enhance digital literacy.
