According to a report published in Wednesday’s Standard, Muturi has gathered a team of top lawyers to defend the government’s stance. This team includes former AG Githu Muigai, who will lead a group comprising lawyers Paul Nyamodi, Kiragu Kimani, and Mahat Somane.
The lawyers mentioned will defend the government’s housing act against allegations from the Kenya Human Rights Commission and Katiba Institute. They accuse the National Assembly of neglecting to involve key stakeholders required to express their support.
The petitioners argue that the National Land Commission was not included as required by the new law and therefore seek to halt the act.
Following a decision by the Nakuru High Court, all seven petitions aimed at halting the implementation of the housing levy have been transferred to Nairobi.
Among these petitions, affiliated senators from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition also filed a separate petition to halt the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) from collecting the housing levy..<<CONTINUE READING>>
