In recent developments, we have gotten to understand that the a young lady who goes by the name Jemimah Marcus has been given the honor, a brief one yet satisfying one that allows for the governor to step out of his office for a day and gives his seat to said lady.
According to sources, the 17 Year Old is a student of the famous Angus Memorial Secondary School in Somolu, Lagos East, where she won the 2020 edition of the Spelling Bee Competition that has been on and been around for quite sometime.
The competition has been around for years, and since 2015, governors of Lagos State have been quite intentional about real arding it’s winners and it seems to be the turn of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. For her exceptional results and beautiful and perhaps outstanding display of intelligence, Jemimah won the race and have now been rewarded by the Lagos State Governor. However, this position, is one that many often misunderstand and it begs the question, what exactly is there to understand.
Many of us misunderstand what it means to become governor, and the problem is perhaps because of the Internet speculations on what it means. People usually believe that for a child to become governor for a day, then it means that such child gains authority or control over the state. But this isn’t the case because in reality people who become governor for a day are only there for honorary positions. The situation that involves becoming governor for a day has been around for quite some time. Usually in the United States, in the state of Texas, Some set of people are signed Governor fully for a day for certain things that they have done for the community. However, To become governor for a day does not mean that such person automatically becomes the governor. Rather, the person only bears the title of governor for one day.

This is to appreciate such person for great job or a well done job on certain communal responsibilities. In the case of Jemima. What Jemimah’s position of governor for a day means is that she can only bear the title and of course sit on the seat of the governor in his office for such day. In certain moments, she is allowed to preside over the House of Assembly just as an honorary Leader, she sits on the council, an Possibly attends meetings that are not sensitive. However, during such days, The governor still remains The sole Decision maker for the state.
Of course this is not to say that jemima’s position as governor for a day is irrelevant or insignificant. Since the position she occupies is only honorary or celebratory, it means that she gets to take pictures with the governor. She gets to sit with House of Assembly members and She probably gets to fly in the governorship choppers while also probably getting to attend dinners just for pictures an pr. But that is all it is simply only celebratory. She isn’t allowed to make decisions or take certain responsibilities rather, She remains the face of lagos state for that day.
What makes the position of governor for a day very interesting Is not the pictures, the seat of the governor, Nor is it the congratulatory message that she probably gets. Rather, it is about writing her name in the history books. For what it is worth, Jemima would remain and be remembered as governor for a day in the state of Lagos. This would help her in so many ways that cannot be discussed properly in this article. But to touch on a few. One must understand that governor for a day means that a child is intelligent enough to have reached the positions, such as that. It doesn’t matter if it is celebratory. People often accord respect to a child who becomes governor for a day. It usually becomes part of her CV and it becomes a very significant aspect of her life. Which means that getting into an institutions of her choice wouldn’t be a problem.
Aside from getting into institutions of her choice, She is also able to perhaps land proper jobs that appear well enough in the future. when companies and organisation hears this about someone they are considering for employment, that such person has once been a governor for a day, It often gives them more reason to employ such person. I mean consider this. Every organization wants to have someone of repute amongst their staff. As an employer, one would rather have Someone who had been governor for a day as part of their staff, than someone else.
