The accident occurred after the matatu, which had passengers, lost control and rammed into a school bus belonging to Thika High School.

In the widely circulated images, the school bus was partly deformed at its rear, while the front side of the matatu sustained significant damage.

The accident took place in the Kuraiha area near the footbridge of Mang’u High School, resulting in a traffic jam along the road.

Despite the accident, none of the students were injured apart from a few who boarded the matatu. Those injured were rescued and taken to hospital.

Following the accident, residents of the area quickly embarked on rescue operations to save those injured from the matatu. The damaged matatu was later towed away to restore traffic along the ever-busy highway. The incident comes barely an hour after witnessing a heavy downpour in Nairobi and its neighbouring counties.

The incident comes a fortnight after the Kapsabet High School bus was involved in an accident along the Marigat- Kabarnet highway.

Following the incident, a teacher and a student were confirmed dead with Police Commissioner Stephen Kutwa confirming that the bus had 61 students inside when the tragedy occurred.

“They were heading on a geographical trip, and unfortunately, they had an accident. We have students who have slight injuries but they have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” noted Kutwa.

While confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross Society revealed that a rescue team had been sent to the scene to help in the evacuation process.

“A road traffic incident involving a school bus has been reported at Patkawanin along Marigat-Kabarnet Road in Baringo County. Our response team, alongside the County Ambulance crew, is currently at the scene,” read part of a statement by the Red Cross…CONTINUE READING>>
