Recall that on Tuesday, the most populous democracy in Africa proclaimed Tinubu the victor of the elections held on February 25.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Tinubu received 8.8 million votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while the leading opposition contenders Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi received 6.9 million and 6.1 million votes, respectively.

In response to inquiries from reporters after handing President Muhammadu Buhari his Certificate of Return on Wednesday night in his country residence of Daura, Katsina State, Tinubu verified this occurrence.

Prior to traveling to Daura with Sen. Kashim Shettima, his vice president-elect, the former governor of Lagos State had earlier on Wednesday collected the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

In response to inquiries about the congratulations letters he had thus far received following INEC’s announcement of his election as president-elect, Tinubu said:

“Yes, very many, very many of those. In fact, as far as Europe, the stock market reacted favorably, and Macron, the President of France, sent out a message of friendliness.”
