Last Saturday, Nigerians headed to the polls to elect their new president, following the end of incumbent President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd)’s term.
After a few days of vote counting, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Wednesday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, had been elected as Nigeria’s next president.
Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, secured the victory after garnering 8,794,726 votes in the presidential election. The announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, at the International Collation Centre in Abuja.
Despite Tinubu’s clear win, the other two leading presidential candidates also won 12 states each. These candidates are Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party respectively. Below is a breakdown of the states won by the trio:
