Manchester City started the game brightly as they held on to possession but find it difficult going forward. The away side won their first corner of the game in the 4th minute.

Pep’s men made their first clear attempt on goal in the 6th minute through Gundogan. Southampton gradually got themselves into the game as they got close to opening the lead In the 7th minute.

The opening 10 minutes ended with Southampton as the better side in terms of chances created. Manchester City continued to keep possession but could not trouble their opponent’s defense. Grealish tested Southampton’s goalkeeper in the 19th minute but could not find the back of the net.

Mara had a glorious opportunity to put the home side ahead in the 20th minute but played his shot widely off-target. The deadlock was finally broken in the 22nd minute as Mara found the back of the net. Six minutes later Djenepo added a second goal for Southampton.

The opening 30 minutes ended with Pep Guardiola’s team still searching for their first shot on target. Manchester City continue to pressure Southampton as they won a corner in the 40th minute. The first half ended with Pep’s men trailing Southampton by 2 goals to nil.
