Things became more complicated after the incoming of new players following their (the new players) poor adaptation to the style of play of one another and the premier league as well, leaving Potter with no choice but to be pairing every player to develop a better link-up.
However, Graham Potter should desist from pairing Enzo and Ruben Loftus-cheek in Chelsea’s midfield position.
Reasons:
The link-up between Enzo and Ruben Loftus-cheek in Chelsea’s midfield was very appalling: Chelsea football club’s midfield position was very appalling and shaky before the introduction of Zakaria who helped Enzo Fernandez in stabilizing and enhancing the positive performance of Chelsea’s squad in the midfield position.
Ruben Loftus-cheek performed more brilliantly as a wing-forward ( also supporting Reece James in Chelsea’s right-back position) during the tenure of Thomas Tuchel.
Loftus-cheek can also perform well in the attacking position as a false nine or as a supporting striker before his stamina, dribbling, and shooting abilities.
Loftus-cheek is not as experienced in the midfield as the likes of Zakaria and Gallagher: I think that when that Loftus-cheek possesses little experience than the likes of Zakaria and Gallagher in the midfield position.
This was seen in Chelsea’s poor performances in the midfield area before he (Loftus-cheek) was substituted in Chelsea’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.
The introduction of Denis Zakaria in the midfield position had a great positive impact on Chelsea’s squad leading to their domination and an increase in their attacking threat. Even Gallagher has more experience in the midfield role than Loftus-cheek.
Hence, deploying Loftus-cheek to the midfield position when the likes of Zakaria, Gallagher, Kovacic, Kante, and Mount are available isn’t a wise decision by Chelsea head coach, Graham Potter.
