Son was in wonderful form last term, claiming the golden boot with 23 Premier League goals.

The South Korean – valued at £67.5m by Transfermarkt – has 131 goals and 73 assists to his name for Spurs, having moved to north London from Bayer Leverkusen for £27m in 2015.

And that form and consistency has caught the eye of Ancelotti, who having led Madrid to Champions League glory last month is looking to bolster his forward options ahead of the coming season.

Both Gareth Bale and Isco will leave this summer at the end of their contracts and Marco Asensio, who has one year left, has been heavily linked with AC Milan, as well as a number of Premier League clubs.

Having been left disappointed in their chase of Kylian Mbappe, who opted to sign a new lucrative deal with Paris Saint-Germain, the club is now said to be on the lookout for other options.

Thats according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, who claims Son is ‘in the list’ of the players Madrid are ‘following’.

Spurs has been a happy hunting ground for Madrid in the past, with the La Liga giants signing both Bale and Luka Modric from the Premier League side.

But Son won’t come cheap having signed a new contract last summer which ties him to the club until 2025

Having signed his new deal, Son said: “It’s like home, especially with the fans, the players, the staff.

“There was no decision. It was easy. I’m so happy to be here and will be so glad to see the fans again soon.

Meanwhile, another Spurs forward looks set to leave the club, with reports claiming the club have agreed to sell Steven Bergwijn to Ajax for around £20m.

Bergwijn joined the Premier League side from Ajax’s league rivals PSV for £27m in 2020, but has struggled for game time since.

Speaking earlier this month, Bergwijn publicly revealed his desire to leave.

He said: “I just need to go play. I want to leave Spurs now, that’s for sure.

“Is it important that my new club plays in the Champions League? That’s not my top priority. It would be nice, but what’s important is that I’m going to play.

“I wasn’t allowed to leave Spurs in the winter and then I didn’t have any problems. But for the last few months, I was hardly looked after there.

“I want to go and play somewhere weekly. It would be nice if there was clarity soon. My situation now has to be different.”
