One of the common sicknesses men suffer in their old age is prostrate cancer or prostrate enlargement. For most men above 60, the size of their prostrate may increase above the normal size causing some problems with urination.

Because of the frequency with which men suffer prostrate problems, it is important to take precautions to safeguard our prostrate from infections.

One way of taking care of our prostrate is through the food we eat. Research. have shown that some foods have potential for protecting the prostrate such as:

1 Cruciferous vegetables.

Cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, brocholli,Bok choy, kale, cauliflower and brussel sprouts. . They are high in minerals, vitamins,phyto chemicals and antibiotics . These nutrients may help protect the body against free radicals.

2. Tomatoes.

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene which researchers have always linked to prostrate health. Cooked tomatoes especially with olive oil is very good for your prostrate.

3. Oily fishes.

Some oily fishes such as salmon, mackerel,and sardines contain healthy fats. These healthy fats are essential for your overall good health.

4. Berries.

Berries are important source of antioxidants known as anthocyanins which may help protect against oxidative stress which is the major cause of cancer and other chronic sicknesses.

Examples of berries include blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberry and so on.

5. Coffee and tea.

Research have shown that the antioxidants in green tea may help protect the body against oxidative damage which is the major cause of chronic diseases.

In the same vein , coffee also contains some antioxidants which may help protect against free radicals.

However because of the caffeine in coffee, it is important that you take them in moderation to avoid possible side effects. Taking more than three to four cups of coffee a day may produce side effects.
