1. Using your childhood baggage on your kids.

No one is born into a perfect family with a flawless upbringing. To some degree, almost all of us carry baggage from our childhoods into adulthood.

2. Helicopter Parenting

No father wants his children to suffer. But there is a narrow line between not wanting your children to suffer and trying to protect them from everything. Your kids may not develop the ability to face hardship if you always protect them from every possible negative consequence.

Dads should be able to rely on their children. If you promise to play a game with them or take them out but don’t fulfill your promise, they may get upset and start to believe that you can’t be trusted.

It’s a bad thing if children cannot trust their fathers to be honest and open with them. If you can’t afford what your kids are asking you now, don’t promise them. Instead, do it as a surprise when you have it. They will love it.
