In all the games played, there were several controversies as regard the referee and VAR (Video Assistant Referee) decisions made which has got many people talking hitherto after denying some teams the well deserved goals.
Four of the wrong decisions made by VAR are the following:
– Conor Coady’s goal for Everton against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby
The Frank Lampard’s side were clearly robbed on a daylight as they could have gotten the whole maximum three points of the game which ended goalless draw at full time.
Conor Coady’s goal scored in the 71st minute of the game was cancelled after it was ruled out for offside which was a wrong call from the VAR as it was obvious that the goalscorer was clearly on-side by been on the same line with Virgil van Dijk.
– Virgil van Dijk tackle without being sent off
The Dutch defender roughly tackled Amadou Onana in the 75th minute which should have seen him sent off the pitch of play but was lucky to have only received a yellow card.
– Maxwel Cornet’s goal for West Ham United against Chelsea
The call by the Video Assistant Referee to rule out this goal was a bit controversial as this could have been an equalizer to end the game two all draw.
This was highly frustrating for the Hammers after putting up so much efforts to get an equalizer which they actually got only for VAR to rule it out with the claim that Edouard Mendy was fouled in the build-up with the replay suggesting that was far from the case.
– Philippe Coutinho’s goal for Aston Villa against Manchester United
The former Barcelona dazzler scored a beautiful goal against the reigning Champion but it was flagged for offside which was a wrong call by both the referee and the VAR.
