1. Vitamin B9 (Folic acid)

Folic acid is required by the body for blood production, growth, and reproduction. That is why pregnant women are strongly advised to regularly eat food rich in folic acid or take its tablet daily. Without adequate folic acid, normal blood cells may not be produced which ultimately results in blood insufficiency and anemia.

2. Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin)

Vitamin B12 combines with folic acid and mineral iron to power blood production in the body. When you take foods rich in vitamin B12, it enters the stomach, and particular proteins called intrinsic factors to facilitate its absorption into the bloodstream. It then moves to the bone marrow where blood production is taking place.

Vitamin A is also essential in maintaining a good level of red blood cell count. It is also essential for eye and skin health. In some cases foods, we eat contain beta-carotene which later undergoes oxidation inside the body to yield vitamin A.

Foods rich in vitamin A include carrots, watermelon, grapefruits, cantaloupe, dark leafy vegetables such as kale and spinach, sweet potatoes, red peppers, and squash.

Organ meat such as liver and kidney, dark leafy vegetables, dried fruits, egg yolks, and legumes are very rich in iron. Therefore you need to include those food items into your diet.
