In a striking turn of events, elders from the Njuri Ncheke of Tharaka Nithi and the Kiama Kia Muembu from Embu have voiced concerns over President William Ruto’s silence amidst growing calls for Gachagua’s ousting by some members of Parliament.

These MPs appear to be aligning themselves with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, who has been endorsed by various factions in the region.

Njuri Ncheke leaders, led by Mutegi Kiugo, while addressing the press in Embu have cautioned that such political manoeuvres risk destabilizing the region and the country at large, urging President Ruto to break his silence and address the situation.

They reminded the public that Gachagua was elected as Ruto’s running mate on merit, making the current fallout particularly concerning.

The elders also pointed out that there’s no need for an impeachment to elevate Kindiki, as he already holds a significant role in the government. They expressed readiness to mediate between the conflicting sides to restore peace and foster development in the region.

This internal struggle in the Mount Kenya region is emblematic of deeper political realignments.
