There was an inevitable need for peace and tranquility to return to the country, as the citizens residing in various geopolitical zones in Nigeria want to experience the normalcy that have been keeping the together, through the ages.
Early 2021, the six executive governors of the six states in the Southwestern part of the country came together to, holistically, find a lasting solution to the varieties of insecurity menace that have been threatening the usual peace and harmony that have been known with the region.
Commendably, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State; Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on January 9, 2021 rose to the occasion where the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) which was codenamed Operation Amotekun was created.
Despite unnecessary roars from some citizens who felt disappointed by the Western Governors’ decision to, collectively, seek a one-time off solution to the insecurity menace of kidnapping, farm invasions, rapping, land grabbing and other social vices that were being perpetrated by the bandits and their sister criminal gangs, the western governors put aside their political differences and, holistically, curb the insecurity menaces with Operation Amotekun.
Operation Amotekun has assisted the government in the western part of the country to chase the bandits off the zone while sister criminal gangs are being, mercilessly, dealt with.
The creation of the Operation Amotekun Security Outfit stands tall in the midst of security strategies that have been deployed by government, at all levels, to curb the insecurity problems that currently face the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
