Some days ago, Chelsea appointed former Brighton head coach Graham Potter as manager, following the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel. It didn’t come as a surprise to many football fans, as Chelsea have been known for their “hiring and firing” policy as related to managers over the years.

Notable managers like Luiz Felipe Scolari, Carlo Ancelotti, Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Claudio Ranieri, Maurizio Sarri and many others left the club after spending fewer than four years in one stint. Only Mourinho spent over four years at the club but he had to do that in two different stints.

In fact, the last Chelsea manager to spend four straight years at the club was John Neal. Neal was appointed Chelsea manager on 28 May 1981 as a successor to Geoff Hurst- and he remained in that position till 11 June 1985 when he retired.

Since then, the club has had over 13 different permanent managers, with none of them spending four full years at the club in one stint.
