This recent revelation by the Rivers state governor has stirred up a lot of reactions among Nigerians most especially those who believed that Nyesom Wike may be harbouring thoughts to contest for president in 2023.
When I learnt about this latest development, the first question that came into my mind is; what about Wike, does this means that he does not have interest in contesting for president in 2023?
Nyesom Wike is believed by many to be among those pushing for the emergence of a president from Southern Nigeria in 2023. As a result, the executive governor of Rivers state was rumoured to have the presidency in mind.
However, yesterday, governor Nyesom Wike said he will prefer that the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic party should be given to Bala Mohammed who is serving as governor of Bauchi state for the first time.
In May 2021, governor Nyesom Wike said no one can intimidate him over his rumoured 2023 presidential ambition, and that even if he wants to contest, he can’t be stopped.
Bearing this in mind and what he said about Bala Mohammed yesterday, Nyesom Wike might be trying to insinuate that he is not interested in running for the presidency or he may be to get attention off himself while he plans and put things in place without gathering attention from anyone.
Truth be told, no one can actually state what Wike has in mind at the moment, is it the presidency or a ministerial appointment if any PDP candidate emerge as president by the end of next year general elections? We can’t actually say.
However, in few months from now, all of these questions will be answered and we will know where his interest lies.
