The white spots on your nails is called leukonychia. It could either be a small or widespread leukonychia. Small leukonychia occurs partially, that is in a little portion of your nails, while the widespread leukonychia occurs in almost all region of your nails.

Leukonychia could be caused by numerous factors. Physical damage, nutrient deficiencies, infection and other health conditions can make leukonychia occur.
Below are the causes of leukonychia.
1. Nail injury
When you have a nail injury, leukonychia may occur. This is because your nail plate get damaged during the injury and this could lead to whitening of your nails.
2. Poisoning or medication.
When you are exposed to toxic and poisonous substances, this could make leukonychia to occur. These harmful substances makes your nails fade, thereby making them white.
In the aspect of medication, the drugs used to treat urinary tract infection and other bacteria infections may cause white spots on your nails. Also, in the treatment of cancer, the process of chemotherapy could cause leukonychia to occur.
