Off an astonishing 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth last Saturday, Liverpool comes into today’s Merryside derby at Everton with eyes set on another large victory against the winless Toffees.

Everton has managed a pair of draws in its last two matches but Liverpool easily stands as the toughest opponent on the fixture thus far. Liverpool has recorded points in four of its first five matches and rebounded off the 2-1 away loss at Old Trafford by outscoring its next two opponents 11-1.

Liverpool has dropped one match to Everton in their last 24 meetings, a span dating back to 2010.

Along with Roberto Firmino’s three goals, and a pair each from Favio Carvalho and Mohamed Salah, Liverpool is the English Premier League’s second highest scoring offense through the first five matches and its plus-nine goal differential is second best in the EPL.

Three summer signings are available to make their Everton debuts today. Neal Maupay, who was unable to be registered for the 1-1 draw at Leeds United last time out due to Premier League requirements, Idrissa Gana Gueye and James Garner are eligible for the matchday squad.

Though Liverpool has only suffered the one loss thus far, it sits seven points behind undefeated Arsenal atop the EPL table.

Everton, who last year narrowly escaped relegation on the final day of the season, currently sits in 17th place and could be flirting with a similar fate this season if some wins do not begin to pile up.

Today marks the 61st meeting between these clubs with Liverpool holding a substantial 26-10-24 lead.
