Werner, 26, is a player that really divides opinion.
The Blues forward has finished another turbulent season at Stamford Bridge, finishing with 11 goals in 37 games across all competitions. He’s still regularly in the spotlight for missed opportunities in front of goal, though.
In contrast, the speedster is a vital player on the international stage with his country Germany.
Flick called Werner underappreciated
German boss Flick has singled out Chelsea’s individual for his overall game.
He grabbed the assist in his nation’s 1-1 draw against Italy over the weekend, and his country now face England tonight in their next Nations League match.
“With Timo, it’s a bit underappreciated what he brings to the team,” Flick said.
“There’s a willingness to go out of his way, to put the opponent under pressure, to create spaces in front of the defence. He implements well.”
Chelsea future
It’s now two seasons into Werner’s career as a Chelsea player, but the same frustrations over his game continue to crop up.
For certain, the work rate and commitment he puts in can’t be in question.
However, Thomas Tuchel’s Blues side need more attacking output from several of their attackers, including Werner.
He’s reportedly one of numerous players that would be prepared to exit west London if an appropriate bid was made for him this summer, so it’ll be interesting to see where his immediate future lies.
