The match was lively from the onset, with Chelsea creating a lot of goalscoring chances. However, they still showed they needed to work on their clinicality as they recorded no shot on target in the first half.

In the 39th minute, Chelsea were presented with a double chance. Raheem Sterling’s shot was blocked at the back post before Mount flashed one wide. Both teams went into the halftime break on level terms.

Chelsea sparked into life in the second half, opening the scoring just three minutes after the restart.

They scored from a well-worked move down the right by Reece James and Mason Mount, whose cross found Sterling who then curled it into the bottom corner.

Red Bull Salzburg refused to go down without a fight, however. Noah Okafor erased Chelsea’s lead by scoring in the 75th minute. After a hard-fought affair between both teams, Graham Potter’s first match as Chelsea manager ended in a well-deserved draw.

With this result, Chelsea now sit at the bottom of the Group E table with just one point. Salzburg are above Chelsea with two points. Dinamo Zagreb are second with three points, while AC Milan are first with four points. Here is what the Group E table looks like.
