Jonathan was fully in power between 2010 and 2015. And during this period, he appointed several persons to work in his cabinet. He lost his reelection bid in 2015 and everyone moved on. But few years later, two of them are aspiring to be the candidate of the PDP in 2023.
The first key appointee of Jonathan, who is now on the queue is Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim, the politician who comes from Ebonyi State. Mr. Anyim didn’t keep any ambition to himself. He has talked and he is on the move to get the ticket.
Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim served as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation when Jonathan was in power. That is actually not the first time he will be in power. He was once the president of the House of Senate. But his last major appointment was the one given to him by Jonathan.
It’s not clear yet if Jonathan has been duly informed. But whether he is carried along or not, it is a fact that Anyim was an appointee of Jonathan and he is now in the race for the PDP ticket. And Mr. Pius Anyim will be looking forward to support from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
The second former appointee of Jonathan in the race is Mr. Doyin Okupe. He believes that the next president should come from the southern region. And he will want to fall back upon the support of the southwest region. Mr. Okupe, who hails from Ogun State, worked under Jonathan.
He was the presidential spokesperson when Jonathan was leading the country. It means Doyin Okupe was very close to Jonathan when the Bayelsa born politician held sway as the leader of the country. Whether he is seeking Jonathan’s support or not isn’t clear yet. What is established right now is that he is in the race for PDP ticket.
