Mateo Kovacic is not the only Chelsea player set for a medical elsewhere. Standard Sport understands that Kai Havertz will also undergo checks at Arsenal this weekend.
The Gunners have agreed an initial £62m fee for the player that will rise to £65m with add-ons, with Havertz having agreed personal terms on a long-term contract.
We reported yesterday that Arsenal were prepared to carry out a medical abroad if needed, with Havertz currently on holiday after playing in Germany’s recent friendlies against Poland and Colombia. The deal could be announced officially by Arsenal on Monday.
Chelsea preparing £80m bid for Caicedo
Chelsea are preparing a new £80million offer for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo. The Ecuadorian is one of several midfielders being linked with a move away this summer and could now be set to join the Blues, who had a £60m offer for him rejected by the Seagulls two weeks ago.
Caicedo has been linked with a move away from the club for some time, and it appears they will hold out for an improved bid from Mauricio Pochettino’s side. And there’s no doubt Chelsea will be able to make a higher offer, with Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech and Edouard Mendy set to depart the club this summer for a combined £107m.
Jorginho staying put
Jorginho will stay at Arsenal this summer, according to the Evening Standard. The Italy international, 31, joined the Gunners from Chelsea in January and still has a year remaining on his contract, which contains an option for another 12 months. Arteta praised Jorginho for his “deep leadership skills” and “intelligence” on signing him.
