Tottenham have added Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier to their shortlist and are “particularly interested” according to Phil Hay – a player Hugo Lloris recently praised him: “doing very good things in the Premier League.”...CONTINUE READING THE FULL ARTICLE>>>
Meslier, 22, clocked up his 90th senior appearance for Leeds on Saturday, as Leeds drew with Southampton. While he has been guilty of a few mistakes in the Premier League, he has been first choice ever since they were promoted.
The France Under-21 international has conceded a whopping 142 goals in his 90 games, keeping 25 clean sheets. But that is largely down to Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play prior to Jesse Marsch’s arrival, and Leeds fighting relegation.
Earlier this month, Manchester United were being linked with a move for Meslier. But it looks incredibly unlikely that Meslier is sold by Leeds this summer. Now, Hay says Tottenham are also interested in Meslier.
A player, that Lloris is currently ahead of in the France pecking order. He is largely seen as his eventual successor. Lloris is a big fan of Meslier, being quoted by Tribal Football last season as praising the £5million Leeds signing.
“Further on, there is Illan Meslier who is doing very good things in the Premier League. In relation to his age, what he can demonstrate in such an intense and strong championship, shows all the potential he can have,” Lloris said.
Tottenham interested in Meslier: Lloris praised him
Meslier is one of the best young talents in the Premier League. A goalkeeper that is already first choice. One of the first names on the team sheet of an exciting Leeds side. Excellent with the ball at his feet, and a brilliant shot stopper.
At just 22, he is likely to enjoy another 15 or more years in the Premier League, if he continues the way he is going. Little surprise, Tottenham and Manchester United are keen. But he would struggle to start for either, right now.
