Salt buildup in the kidneys leads to the formation of stones. Here, though, are some all-natural approaches to protecting yourself from kidney stones.
We need to cut back on salt and sodium
The risk of developing kidney stones is inversely proportional to the amount of sodium and salt eliminated from one’s diet. The kidneys have a built-in system for flushing out excess salt through the urinary tract.
So, a similar amount of calcium can be found in the urine. In other words, the more the sodium intake, the greater the calcium loss through urination. One of the main causes of kidney stones is an excess of calcium in the urine.
Limiting sugar intake
If you have kidney stones, you may have heard the encouraging advice to cut back on sugar. Increased calcium loss through urination results from insulin’s processing of the sugar.
Having high blood sugar speeds up the elimination of chemicals like calcium, oxalates, and uric acid, all of which contribute to the formation of kidney stones.
Eating fewer foods high in oxalate
Cocoa, coffee, tea, spinach, beet leaves, celery, cucumbers, and many other foods are high in oxalates. Oxalate concentrations in the urine are the primary cause of kidney stones, far more so than excess calcium or protein.
