So many people believe that cow skin has no nutritional value but this is not true. Cow skin is very high in collagen, a type of protein that is quite important for holding bones and skin tissues in place. Studies have also shown that there are reasonable levels of minerals in cow skin depending on the method of processing it.

Aside from the health benefits, certain medical conditions can be caused by eating kpomo. Some of them include;

1. Kidney and liver damage

One of the biggest fears people have about eating kpomo is the use of formaldehyde to preserve it. Formaldehyde also called formalin is an anti decay chemical that is used in treating corpses.

Some kpomo traders saturate their kpomo in Formalin to heighten the thickness and size so they would make more profit. This chemical is very dangerous when it begins to build up in the body because it can drastically damage the kidney and liver.

2. Cancer

When roasting cow skin, things such as tyres, dustbin composite as well as other particles are added to the fire. This in turn activates Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) which exposes a person to a great risk of cancer.
