United States has made it clear that, taxes that have not been supported by the people should be ignored. He is firm that, the culture of impunity and leadership challenges that affect the country when it comes to tax policies must be addressed.
The remarks by the United States comes at a time that President Ruto is focused on ensuring that he makes a lot of trade deals with the United States. The president was keen to ensure that, taxes drive the Kenyan economy but has largely failed to involve Kenyans on the same issues.
President Ruto has no other option rather than listen to the people or his plan to engage in trade deals with the United States will flop badly. It’s important to understand that, the country needs a closer focus on ways of raising revenue without necessarily overburdening the people.
It’s important to understand that, challenges around taxes have been one of an issue of concern for all Kenyans. Businesses have closed down but the president has vowed to ensure that, taxes are pushed through at whatever cost without playing unnecessary politics.
