It was just this time last week when we were hearing report after report about how upset the Chelsea players were that manager Mauricio Pochettino had left the club by mutual consent. He was clearly well-liked by the players and some of them enjoyed good relations with the Argentine.
But it sounds like they’ve soon got over him. Just over a week later and the lads are chirpy again apparently.
According to The Evening Standard this afternoon, Chelsea players are excited about the prospect of working with Enzo Maresca and they believe his tactical acumen can help them thrive.
Apparently Chelsea’s players have also spoken to some of their pals at both Leicester and Manchester City, where Maresca worked, and his appointment has generated excitement among the squad, given all the reports have been extremely positive.
The players were reportedly ‘dismayed’ by Pochettino leaving, per the report. But they seem much better now!
It goes on to say the players were not blind to some of the issues that had developed between Pochettino and the Chelsea board. And with Maresca set to take the helm at Stamford Bridge, the mood in the squad has lifted markedly.
It looks like his setup and style of play is exciting the lads too!
The players are understood to believe that his preferred tactical plans can help them thrive and that his ideas will prove a good fit, per the report. Maresca’s favoured 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 formations shift to a back three in possession, with inverted full-backs creating the potential for an extra man to operate higher up the midfield.
