The leaders warned that the country was walking down a dangerous path where President William Ruto has reportedly vowed to bring back radical tax measures.

Addressing the press in Embu, the leaders led by Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka said the Judiciary remains the people’s last line of defence.

Other Azimio politicians included DAP-K party boss Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

“President Ruto has said he will reintroduce the Finance Bill, 2024, these taxes are going to Parliament and with the tyranny of numbers that they have and the capture of Parliament, the Judiciary is the last line of defence for Kenyans,” said Wamalwa.

“We want to pray for the judiciary since it is the only remaining arm of government which has not been captured.”

At the same time, the leaders asked the young people to be vigilant and not to drop their guard, saying Azimio would join them in pushing back against government excesses.

“We just don’t let our guard down, we are asking the Gen Z not to give up. We know that they are disillusioned with what has happened but we are asking them to have an all-generations approach against these proposed taxes,” Wamalwa said.

Kalonzo warned that the government will resist any attempts to introduce tolling on Kenyan roads.

“If you want to bring tolls against, please build your own roads and bring those tolls and not on roads built by Kibaki and Uhuru,” Kalonzo said.
