This season, some Super Eagles continue to show their intent to thrive among the best. This weekend was no exception....CONTINUE READING THE FULL ARTICLE>>>
It was undoubtedly promising as there were some players who ensured that they gave their best to help their respective clubs.
Based on performance, here is the best Super Eagles XI of the weekend and the best player among them.
Goalkeeper
Adebayo Adeleye
It hasn’t been an encouraging situation for our goalkeepers. Both Maduka Okoye and Francis Uzoho were on the bench for their teams during the weekend.
Adebayo Adeleye is the only goalkeeper who was in action for his club, Hapoel Jerusalem. He couldn’t prevent his team from losing at home. But he is in the top XI because he is the only Super Eagles goalkeeper who played.
Defenders
Tyronne Ebuehi
Empoli got a hard-earned 1-1 draw away from home against Torino. Ebuehi was impressive during his time on the pitch.
He provided the assist for Mattia Destro’s goal. That goal was enough to earn Empoli a point. Ebuehi played for 78 minutes before being substituted.
Kenneth Omeruo
Leganes ensured that they came from behind and got all three points on Sunday evening against high-flying Cartagena.
It was an important win that bolstered their chances of avoiding relegation. Omeruo gave his best to help Leganes see out the win. He scored and also made a huge contribution in defence.
Chidozie Awaziem
Awaziem and his Croatian club, Hadjuk Split, are just not ready to give up on the league title. It was a last-gasp goal that saw them secure a narrow 2-1 win against NK Varazdin. Awaziem scored that last-gasp goal that gave them the hope of catching up with league leaders Dinamo Zagreb.
Calvin Bassey
After the onslaught at the hands of Napoli in the Champions League, Ajax were not ready to lose again. Bassey was an important player who helped the Dutch club get a win during their visit to Volendam. The defender scored his team’s second goal as they won 4-2.
Ola Aina
Aina was impressive but unlucky in his team’s draw to Empoli. The full-back showed the attacking side of his game. However, he couldn’t find the back of the net.
Midfielders
Alex Iwobi
Iwobi’s resurgence this season has been very commendable. In Everton’s home loss to Man United at the weekend, the midfielder was the silver linen of his team. He scored his first goal of the season to give Everton an early lead, but they couldn’t hold on.
Raphael Onyedika
It was a miserable night for Club Brugge and Onyedika in their home loss to KVC Westerlo on Saturday. Despite giving everything in attack, they couldn’t convert the numerous goalscoring chances they had. Yet, Onyedika gave a good account of himself in midfield.
Terem Moffi
It might come as a surprise that Lorient are second in the French league table, a point behind PSG. Moffi’s consistent heroism is one of the reasons that makes that possible. The striker scored two goals on Sunday to secure his team’s away win against Stade Brestois.
Cyriel Dessers
At the weekend, Dessers scored his first goal of the season for Cremonese. He ended up on the losing side as his team couldn’t find answers to Napoli’s attacking ruthlessness.
Ademola Lookman
Atalanta’s unbeaten run in the Italian Serie A continues. They weren’t expected to find things easy against Udinese. Lookman scored Atalanta’s first goal before Luis Muriel added the second. Atalanta somehow squandered that lead to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Best player of the weekend
Terem Moffi is undoubtedly the best Super Eagles player of the weekend. The striker scored the two goals that helped his team come from a goal down to secure an impressive win.
Moffi has now scored 8 goals in the league this season, the same number of goals scored by Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
