Pedri, 20 and Gavi, 18 are two of the brightest youngsters not just in Spanish football but in the world. At such a young age, they have established themselves in the first team of Barcelona and Spain as they grow and mature everyday training under Xavi Hernandez one of the legends they’re being tipped emulate.
Last night, the two youngsters won their first trophy with Barcelona in a 3-1 masterclass performance against Real Madrid.
To prove their worth and hype, they were the mastermind behind the win. Gavi scored the first, assisted Lewandowski for the second and Pedri got the third from another big chance created by the 18-year-old Gavi.
With almost two decades left for these young super stars to play in their career, can they truly live up to their Xavi and Iniesta comparison and hype?
I absolutely think so.
Iniesta and Xavi are regarded as two of the greatest midfielders to have ever played the game of football so many might think Pedri and Gavi have impossible boots to fill.
Maybe they might not achieve the great things the legends achieved for Barcelona and Spain in terms of team success, individually, they can do a lot better than them.
Iniesta and Xavi never won the Ballon D’or even though they came really close on several occasions, Pedri and Gavi have what it takes to win the award in their careers and one of them, if not the two of them, would most likely win it.
Do not forget that in the last two years, Pedri and Gavi have both won the Golden Boys award, an award given to the best youngster in world football.
Among their age bracket, there aren’t many players who are quite as talented as those two.
Of course to come close to being as good as Iniesta and Xavi were, they will have to improve massively.But the way they’ve started their career, they have everything they need. When Xavi and Iniesta were 18 and 20, they were unknown to the world.
