Lack of sleep can affect your body in many ways and is a sign that you are not getting enough rest.

Signs you’re not getting enough sleep, according to webMD:

Dark circles

Bloodshot eyes, dark circles, and sagging under the eyes are all signs of sleep deprivation. People who are sleep deprived tend to have wrinkles and puffiness under their eyes. This is probably because if you don’t get as much sleep as you need.

Acne

Sleep deprivation can also show up on your skin. Research on the link between sleep deprivation and acne suggests that this is because sleep controls several hormones in the body. Sleep deprivation can also damage the immune system, making the body more vulnerable to a number of health problems.

Unhealthy cravings

If you don’t get enough sleep on a regular basis, it can be difficult to follow healthy habits, and instead of choosing a raw protein salad, you’ll be tempted to eat a burger or fries.

When the brain is sleep-deprived, the decision-making process is impaired, making it more likely to crave unhealthy foods (which are high in calories rather than provide essential nutrients).

Weight gain

When you sleep well at night, your body is able to properly control the hormones associated with hunger, leptin, and ghrelin. If this control fails, you will feel the need to eat more, which can lead to weight gain. Ghrelin, also known as the “hunger hormone”, is secreted when the stomach is empty and increases appetite.

The higher the concentration of this hormone, the hungrier you are. When you are sleep deprived, ghrelin levels rise, you eat more, and you are more likely to gain weight.

Mood swings

Irritability is one of the signs of sleep deprivation. In one study, participants were limited to 4.5 hours of sleep every night for a week. As a result, participants felt stressed, angry, and mentally exhausted. Their condition improved when their sleep patterns were restored.

Concentration and memory loss

If you are missing even two hours of sleep out of an eight-hour day, you are more likely to have difficulty concentrating and remembering.
