The Blues were known for their effective loan system during Roman Abramovich’s time at the club but Todd Boehly could decide to cut a few of those players on loan loose to free up funds for further investment in the playing squad.
With this in mind, below are six players the Blues should be looking to sell this summer to free up space in the squad:
1. Ross Barkley
Ross Barkley joined Chelsea from Everton in 2018 but hasn’t been the instant hit many Chelsea fans had wanted. He was loaned to Aston Villa for the 2020/21 season but has been a fringe player once again since returning to the club at the beginning of last season.
The Blues could cut him loose to free up space in the squad and also get some much-needed funds for strengthening the playing squad.
2. Marcos Alonso
Marcos Alonso played for the Blues regularly when Ben Chilwell was injured last season and the Spaniard wing-back has been a capable backup for the English international but the Blues could let him go if they sign a more capable player who could compete for a place in the team with Chilwell.
3. Baba Rahman
Baba Rahman has been on Chelsea’s books since 2015 but he has been to numerous clubs on loan ever since.
The Ghanaian defender Schalke 04, Stade de Reims, Mallorca, PAOK, and Reading since 2015, and it’s time the Blues let him leave the club permanently.
