The forgotten Belgian playmaker was given a rare start as Carlo Ancelotti ringed the changes to his side with one eye on the make-or-break UEFA Champions League semi-final return leg against Manchester City.
Ancelotti has often been criticized for failing to hand Hazard game time. However, the 32-year-old did himself no good with an underwhelming performance as Marco Asensio’s pile driver handed Los Blancos a 1-0 win against Getafe.
In what was his first league start for Los Blancos in 2023, Hazard had a night to forget. According to MadridXtra, the former Chelsea attacker completed no dribble and made no shot on target while losing possession on five occasions.
According to Transfermarkt, he lasted 60 minutes against Getafe before being replaced by Vinicius Junior, who injected some bite into Madrid’s attack and even scored a goal which was correctly ruled out for offside.
