When you return home from an outing covered in itchy red mosquito bites, your friends casually declare that they don’t have any. Or you wake up from a night of camping with bites all over your ankles and wrists, yet your tentmates are unharmed....CONTINUE READING THE FULL ARTICLE>>>

You’re not the only one who feels this way. Mosquitoes find an estimated 20% of people very tasty, and these people are bitten more frequently on a regular basis.

A multitude of elements, like the amount of carbon dioxide emitted in our breath and the color of clothing we’re wearing, make us more appealing to winged pests, according to science (darker colors attract mosquitoes more than lighter ones). But, in the end, mosquito preference is largely determined by two factors: our natural body odor and heredity.

Some of the elements that could play a role include:

1. Type of Blood

Mosquitoes landed nearly twice as often on participants with Type O blood in a controlled setting, according to one study. Type B blood was in the middle of this irritating spectrum.

2. Excessive Alcohol Consumption

The effects of alcohol consumption on mosquito attractiveness were investigated in a short 2002 study. People who had drunk beer were found to be more attractive to mosquitoes than those who had not.

3. Excess Bacteria on the Skin

According to other research, the types and number of bacteria that naturally exist on our skin influence our attraction to mosquitoes. Scientists discovered in a 2011 study that having high levels of a few types of bacteria makes skin more appealing to mosquitoes.

4. Heat and Perspiration

Mosquitoes can detect a variety of odours. They can detect lactic acid, ammonia, and other substances released in perspiration, for example. Strenuous activity causes your body to produce more lactic acid and heat.

In addition, the number of other compounds you naturally emit is influenced by genetic variables. Mosquitoes find some people easier than others because of these factors.

How to Reduce the Number of Times You’re Bitten

– If you have type O blood, make sure you fumigate your room on a regular basis.

– Bathe with antiseptic soaps on a frequent basis.

– Cut down on alcohol consumption.

– After exercising, take a bath.
