The 30-year-old told the Reds that he wanted to leave after they lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in May, and as Mane still had one year remaining on his deal, they decided to let him go now rather than take the chance of losing him for nothing in the summer of 2023.

After 120 goals in 269 appearances for Liverpool during his time there, Mane’s exit ends an incredibly successful run for the Senegal international in English football.
