The 30-year-old told the Reds that he wanted to leave after they lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in May, and as Mane still had one year remaining on his deal, they decided to let him go now rather than take the chance of losing him for nothing in the summer of 2023.

Liverpool will pay a set fee of €32m (£27m/$34m) for Mane, with a further €6m (£5m/$6m) available based on appearances and another €3m contingent on individual and team achievements.
Liverpool has sold the winger for more than the £33.5 million (€39 million/$40 million) they paid to sign him from Southampton in 2016, but for Bayern, it represents a significant transaction during the transfer window.
