According to Onyonka, Ruto’s only option is to deliver results at the national level or risk losing his second term in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show on Tuesday, the legislator stated that Ruto’s new cabinet must remain on its toes to quell public rage that has prompted anti-government protests.

He faulted Kenyan politics’ decayed culture for encouraging stale governance and failed systems, a conundrum he believes President Ruto should address.

“If you look at where we are the structure of our governance is not working. If you have a system where in every five years of elections you are either fighting, the Deputy President is fighting with the President and then all this exercise has been held by state resources,” he said.

“That is where we failed. William Ruto is unable to fix that. If he fixes it he will govern for 10 years without question. If he is not able with the new team he has now to change even 20% of the mess we have he will not be elected as president genuinely and legitimately.”

He added: “He may win, he can steal the vote but he will not be voted because people loved him.”

President Ruto’s leadership has been tossed into a boiling pot for the last two months over failed governance and accountability.

This has seen Kenyans taking to the streets protesting for his ousting, calling for a change in the nation’s leadership mostly calling for an end to looting of the public purse.
