This year’s award is controversial because many have thought that the Ballon d ‘Or award should have been given to Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski instead of Lionel Messi. Unfortunately, Lewandowski only finished as the second-best in this year’s award, with the best striker prize. Recall also that Robert Lewandowski was viewed as the favorite to win the Ballon d ‘Or in 2020 because of his goal-scoring exploits. But the award was canceled that year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It would have been fair enough if he was compensated as the winner this year. Last two years, Lewandowski put on an astounding performance. having already won the Bundesliga, DFB Cup, UEFA Champions League, DFL Supercup, and UEFA Supercup. The FIFA Club World Cup would follow in February. He also became the first person to win the continental treble while also being the top scorer in each competition, with hauls of 34 goals from 31 Bundesliga games, six in five in the cup, and 15 in 10 in the Champions League.
No doubt, everyone knows that Robert Lewandowski is an excellent striker with great goal-scoring ability. Even this year winner of the Ballon d ‘Or Lionel Messi testified that Lewandowski deserves the award. He has been incredibly consistent for the past three years. He also has been setting the benchmark for strikers around the world for years. Surely, he deserves to be crowned the winner of the award.
