According to Medicalnewstoday, there are a few additional considerations that people may wish to make when thinking about having intercouse while on their period in order to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Menstruation and any form of skin-to-skin genital contact carry a risk of infection.
Unless you use birth control, having genital intercouse with a male partner when you’re on your period increases your risk of getting pregnant.
The two forms of diseases that may arise as a result of love making activity are STIs and problems caused by changes in the typical female private part flora, like yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis.
Although people can get yeast infections without making love, they may be more prone to them because of hormonal changes related to the menstrual cycle.
Additionally, having intercouse while menstruating can irritate the head of the male private organ and transmit yeast infections. This disorder is known as balanitis.
The only way to stop STIs is to use barrier methods like condoms or dental dams. When followed correctly, these precautions can significantly reduce the risk of infection, but they cannot ensure that a person won’t contract an infection.
It is still feasible to engage in love making activity when having a period. The fact that women can still become pregnant or contract STDs while they are on their period must always be kept in mind.
