Its no longer news that Liverpool football club have endured a rather disappointing start to the new 2022/2023 football season under the management of Jurgen Klopp.
The Premier League giants have gained just two points from their opening three league matches ahead of their next match against Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday evening.
Due to this, Liverpool are keen on improving their options in midfield and have been linked with a move for experienced Barcelona central midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.
The 25-year-old Netherlands International, who signed up for Barcelona football club after departing Eredivisie side Ajax back in 2019 has been an important member of the first-team squad.
The experienced central midfielder was hugely involved for Barcelona during the 2021/2022 season where he scored four goals and created five assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.
His impressive performances in midfield is believed to have caught the attention of Liverpool and according to reports from The Sun, the Reds are keen on signing him.
The reports further claimed that Liverpool football club are really interested in Frenkie de Jong and have joined the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign him.
It is believed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to add more quality to his options in midfield and he has identified Frenkie de Jong as a needed addition to his team.
But then, it remains to be seen if Liverpool football club will be able to beat off competition from the likes of Chelsea and secure the signing of Frenkie de Jong before the transfer window closes.
