Man United line up surprise move for PSG star if Ronaldo leaves...CONTINUE READING THE FULL ARTICLE>>>

Manchester United are eyeing a blockbuster deal to bring Brazilian superstar Neymar to Old Trafford this summer.

That’s according to a report from The Mirror who claim that Neymar is being lined up as a potential replacement for Ronaldo, should the 37-year-old leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

The Ronaldo transfer saga will undoubtedly rumble on and on this summer. The Portuguese forward recently returned to Carrington, accompanied by his agent Jorge Mendes, for talks with Erik ten Hag.

It’s clear to see that the Dutchman is happy for Cristiano to leave Manchester United but the problem will be finding a club that can meet his extortionate wage demands.

If Ronaldo does leave Old Trafford, Ten Hag absolutely must bring in another top-class forward. And he seemingly has his eyes set on replacing the 37-year-old with another superstar of the game.

The Mirror reckon that the Brazilian superstar is a potential option for Man United this summer, should Ronaldo end up leaving.

Neymar earns a whopping £606k-a-week at PSG according to Salary Sport. And the Ligue 1 giants want around £76 million for the 30-year-old attacker this summer.

Neymar has bagged 100 goals and 60 assists in 144 games for Paris Saint-Germain. And his career record of 275 goals and 171 assists in 464 games makes for really impressive reading.

Let’s be real here though. Should United really be pursuing a move to sign another incredibly expensive ageing forward who is well past his best and extremely injury prone? The answer to that question is no in our view.

Neymar has missed 135 days of action through injury since the start of last season. The Premier League is the most physically robust league in the world. The ferociously paced tempo and intense nature of the English game makes it incredibly hard for flair players to succeed.

A deal for Manchester United to sign Neymar would take funds of huge proportions, when taking his salary and signing on fee into account as well as the money that PSG will demand for him.

This is one that United should steer clear of in our view. If the Red Devils are to make genuine strikes under Ten Hag, the transfer policy of recruiting players who are well past their best needs to change, and fast.

Signing Neymar would be a backward step for the club this summer.

Ronaldo wants to be released from his Man United contract

Cristiano Ronaldo tells Manchester United to cancel his contract as he explores a move to a Champions League club, The Times report.

The Portugal international rejoined the Red Devils after 12 long years last summer, and had a solid campaign with 24 goals and three assists across all competitions.

Despite his efforts, United only finished sixth in the Premier League with 58 points. This has meant that they won’t be playing in the Champions League next term.

Ronaldo, who has featured in the elite competition for 19 straight seasons, is obviously determined to extend the run, but so far, United are firm on their stance.

During Tuesday’s meeting at Carrington, United reiterated that they would like to keep him next season, having not received any offers from top European clubs.

Ronaldo is still reluctant to stay, and wants to relinquish the second year of his deal. He has been encouraged by the initial interest from Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Ronaldo made a stunning return to Old Trafford from Juventus last summer. He was undoubtedly the stand-out player despite missing key games due to a hip flexor issue.

The Portuguese international underwent medical tests and then trained on Wednesday before watching his follow team-mates in a closed doors friendly match against Wrexham on Wednesday afternoon.

The £27 million-rated star was let down by the inconsistent form of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, but the trio appear to be in fine touch during the ongoing pre-season.

Manager Erik ten Hag has got them playing an impressive brand of attacking football, and Ronaldo’s goalscoring exploits would add an extra edge as they look to compete for trophies.

Hence, United are within their own rights to keep Ronaldo, whose contract expires next summer with the option for another 12 months. If Ronaldo were to leave, it should be mutual with no compensation involved.

Even that should depend on United finding a replacement first. They would not want to go into the new campaign with Martial being the only option up front. Marcus Rashford has largely played out wide in pre-season.
