The highly regarded midfielder Gavi has not yet renewed his contract with Barcelona, therefore major teams all across Europe are closely monitoring his situation.

The 18-year-old La Masia youth player is a full international for Spain and already starts most games for Xavi.

The player’s contract expires in 2023, and the English and German press have reported that Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Manchester United are all interested in signing him. He may leave Barcelona for free in June.

According to the German daily Bild, Bayern Munich is particularly interested in signing the talented midfielder for their long-term ambition and is closely monitoring if he extends his contract at Barcelona.

Manchester United and Liverpool are the two Premier League teams most interested in signing Gavi, according to The Sun and the Daily Mail.

Gavi is thought to have a contract with his present club even though his current term is set to expire in less than a year. According to Mateu Alemany, Barcelona’s director of football, they already have a closed deal that commits them to Gavi staying at Barcelona.

There are a few issues that need to be rectified, but they won’t be until the player becomes 18 because until then, Gavi isn’t allowed to sign contracts longer than four years.

Gavi turned 18 on August 5, but Barcelona has not yet formally announced that he has renewed his contract. Though he can still play first-team games, he is still registered with the B squad despite expectations that he will join the official first team for 2022–2023.

Liverpool keen to sign Barella in January

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are once again linked with Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella and could make a move for the Italian international during the January transfer window.

It is revealed that the Serie A side would be willing to sell the midfielder for £60m. Rumours have linked the player with Liverpool over the course of the past 12 months. But, nothing has happened on the transfer front. This new update can change that come January.

The Reds could be tempted to make a move in the winter in order to begin their midfield revival. Jurgen Klopp’s men are severely short in that department this season, with injuries not helping the cause.

With the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain expected to leave Anfield next summer (contracts expiring), there could be a situation where the Merseyside club need 2-3 midfielders by the end of the 2023 summer transfer window.

Adding one of them in January would not only solve the problem for the future but also make them stronger for the second half of this season.

Looking back at the winter window of this year, and how the addition of Luis Diaz made the difference not just for the years to come, but also during the second half of last season.

Liverpool should cash in on the opportunity to sign Barella as soon as it comes.

Barella is a quality player who can be an ideal addition to a Klopp midfield at Liverpool. He is good on the ball, can break lines with passes and works very hard off the ball.

The Italian international is technically very good and is young enough (25 years old) to shoulder the responsibility of leading the Reds’ midfield for years to come.

Thus, it would make sense for Liverpool to cash in on this potential opportunity in January. Playing the waiting game wouldn’t help anyone.
