The Blues return to Premier League action following a busy transfer deadline day which saw Pierre-Emerick

Aubameyang and Denis Zakaria make the move to Stamford Bridge. In terms of outgoings, Marcos Alonso, Kenedy, Michy Batshuayi and Billy Gilmour left the club permanently, joining Barcelona, Brighton, Fenerbahce and Real Valladolid respectively.

Harvey Vale sealed a loan move to Hull City after signing a new contract, whilst Ethan Ampadu also departed on loan to Italian side Spezia for the 2022/23 season. Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will be hoping to see a positive reaction from his team after Chelsea tasted defeat on the south coast earlier this week, losing 2-1 away to Southampton.

Team news vs West Ham
Done deal ‘very close’

Tuchel tells Zakaria how to escape Saul fate

Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he is aware of the risks that come with deadline-day signings, but hopes that Denis Zakaria will find it easier to adjust than Saul Niguez. In the final hours of the summer transfer window, Chelsea signed the Juventus midfielder on loan.

Speaking on the Switzerland international’s arrival, the Blues boss admitted his concerns over signing the midfielder as late as the west Londoners did in the window. But, Tuchel insisted that he is looking forward to Zakaria’s involvement.

“He can play at even wing-back because he is fast enough and has the volume so I think giving the risks that you mentioned with Saul, he has a bit more positions to play in and a bit more of a physical profile hopefully.”

Team news hint…

Raheem Sterling and Wesley Fofana have both dropped team news hints ahead of Chelsea’s clash with West Ham this afternoon. The duo have posted pre-match graphic previews of the London derby to their respective Instagram stories.

Thomas Tuchel will be hoping that Sterling can continue his rich vein of form versus the Hammers, having directly contributed towards fours goals in his previous four appearances. And, after suffering defeat to Southampton in the week, Fofana could play a huge role in steadying the ship as the Blues look to return to winning ways.

Edson Alvarez talks

Dutch journalist Mike Verwejj has since revealed on the Kick Off Football podcast that Edson Alvarez only wants a transfer to Chelsea, with talks set to continue between the Blues and Eredivisie champions ‘in the coming days’.

football.london understands that Edson Alvarez was the subject of a £43m bid from Chelsea after tracking the 24-year-old throughout the summer transfer window.

Verwejj said: “Now he just wants to make that transfer to Chelsea. If there is a club that has 50million for you and wants to give you €10million net per year, he really wanted to go. He was quite broken.

Armando Broja signs new long-term deal

Chelsea striker Armando Broja has signed a new long-term deal to stay at Stamford Bridge until 2028.

The young striker, who turns 21 later this month, said in a statement: “I’m lost for words really just thinking about it. It’s the club I’ve dreamed of playing for my whole life, the club that I support and the club that I love.

“I’ve been here since I was a boy so it’s a surreal feeling for me and my family. To be able to put on the blue shirt with the first team is a dream come true.

“It’s amazing every minute that you get to play on the pitch because this is one of the biggest clubs in the world. There’s always competition and everyone wants to play so I’m just happy that I have the opportunity to be a part of it.

“Hopefully I get to play a lot of matches and be a part of the team’s success.”
